My Yahoo front page news listed a number of space-related items today; so, my attention quickly turned from my den window view to the more interesting heavens above and well beyond Earth.
There are three active vehicles in NASA’s fleet of four Great Observatories as follows:
- Hubble Space Telescope (1990-present): visible light (example image)
- Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (1991-2000): gamma rays
- Chandra X-ray Observatory (1999-present): x-rays
- Spitzer Space Telescope (2003-present): infrared (example image)
